Three UCSC professors elected 2009 AAAS Fellows
Three professors at the University of California, Santa Cruz, have been awarded the distinction of AAAS Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the association announced this week. They are David Draper, professor of applied mathematics and statistics in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering; Thorne Lay, distinguished professor of Earth and planetary sciences; and Glenn Millhauser, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Groundbreaking research being pursued at the Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz will be showcased at the school's Research Review Day on Thursday, October 22. Five faculty members win 2009 NSF CAREER awards
Five UC Santa Cruz faculty members have won prestigious Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2009. Three of the recipients are faculty in the Jack Baskin School of Engineering: William Dunbar, assistant professor of computer engineering; Pascale Garaud, assistant professor of applied mathematics and statistics; and Joshua Stuart, assistant professor of biomolecular engineering. The others are Yat Li, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, and Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics, both in the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. Summer programs focus on renewable energy research and education
The Bio-Info-Nano Research and Development Institute (BIN-RDI) of the University of California, Santa Cruz, is sponsoring four programs in renewable energy through the summer of 2009. The goal of these initiatives is to foster global collaborative study and research that yields useful alternative energy solutions. More
